Chie Nakano

Contemporary Realistic Artist

Born and raised in Japan, Chie discovered her passion for painting at a very young age. In her early 20's she traveled to Spain and instantly felt in love with its culture, people and lifestyle. In 2006, she decided to move to Madrid to pursue her career as a professional artist. Chie began studying traditional drawing and painting under the tuition of Eduardo Peña Nuñez at the Artium Peña Academy. She became an active member of Madrid's Circulo de Bellas Artes, where she acquired intensive training on human figure and had the opportunity to showcase her work in collective exhibitions.

In 2011, Chie continued her studies joining Amaya Gurpide's private Atelier specializing in figure drawing and painting. During this time, she gained strong technical knowledge and was exposed to the 19th century Old Masters who became and inspiration on developing her current style.

In 2014, following a course of training with Jordan Sokol, Chie was introduced to the Sight-Size method, a unique artistic expression featuring the narrative of harmonious proportion, beautiful tonal composition and elegant contour.

On her free time, Chie often visited el Prado Museum to sketch the masterpieces of the great Spanish Masters like Diego Velázquez, Joaquín Sorolla and José de Rivera.

Currently based in Dubai, Chie is a member of Tashkeel where she continues with her artistic practice at Al Fahidi Historical District. She believes the diversity of Dubai is an inspiration to any artist. Chie continues to capture the beauty of different ethnicities, cultures and beliefs gathered in the most unique landscapes.
